Bull Shoals Lake was made out of the white river when in 1947 the white river was dammed up by Bull Shoals Dam, which is one of the largest concrete dams in the United States. Most of Bull Shoals lake is in Arkansas, a little farther from Branson than either Table Rock or Taneycomo. The majority of the resorts on Bull Shoals Lake are found in the southwestern section of the lake. Because of it relative lack of development vacationing at Bull Shoals Lake is very affordable, you can expect to spend around $100.00 per night at a cabin in a typical Bull Shoals Lake resort. Overall most of the resorts on Bull Shoals are mom and pop operations with around 10-15 cabins, but there are several upsacale resorts on the lake that offer some very luxurious accommodations. Bull Shoals spans over 50 miles with the northern end touching popular Shadow Rock Park near the mouth of Swan Creek in Forsyth, Missouri. Bull Shoals Lake is maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who put restrictions on building near the shoreline which has resulted in virtually no shoreline development around the lake. The closest resorts on Bull Shoals have to be built over 100 feet from normal pool which allows for a beautiful wooded buffer zone all around the lake. This rule is very unique and it offers visitors great views of the lake since there are no cabins dotting the shores of the lake, all the cabins are tucked away up into the woodline. This does not mean that there is nowhere to stay for visitors, Bull Shoals has plenty of resorts and lodging for any potential visitor with larger upscale lake resorts dotting the land surrounding the lake as well as a surplus of camp sites all along the shores of the lake. Because of the afor-mentioned restrictions on the Building/owning of Docks and houses on the shoreline the lake consequently has very little boating traffic when compared to other larger lakes in the state of Missouri such as Table Rock or the Ozarks. This makes Bull Shoals is an ideal lake for water sports such as skiing, boating, swimming, cliff jumping, jet-skiing and Fishing. One great aspect is that it is especially well suited for scuba diving as the water in the lake is some of the most crystal clear in the whole state, and the local dive shops have sunken many interesting pieces of equipment in the lake such as a old Vietnam US military boat. With the exception of Toledo Bend Reservoir, it is doubtful that any lake in the United States has created as many bass fishing legends as has Bull Shoals Lake in northwestern Arkansas and Southwestern Missouri. Among the favorite fishing areas are Howard, Jimmie, sister and Gulley Spring Creeks, all located on the lower half of the lake. Each features shallow flats and gravel points where the bottom does not fall away quite so quickly. These are also very large tributaries where fishermen could literally spend days fishing all the points and coves available to them.
